Cadaqués – Perfect Spot for a Quiet Break in Spain

Cadaqués was one of my absolute favourite places on my travels and well worth a visit if you want a less touristy spot in the Girona region of Southern Spain. I went in July and it was not overcrowded despite it being the start of the peak holiday season. A picturesque 2 hour coach ride from Barcelona or 1 hour from Figueres is the only way to reach Cadaqués if you are without a car. This is via the twisting mountains so make sure you have travel sickness pills with you if you suffer from motion sickness!

The best way to describe Cadaqués is understated luxury. It knows it is gorgeous but doesn’t need to brag about it. So it’s great if like me, you want to avoid the flashy Cannes/St Tropez type vibe but still go somewhere really nice.

It has the feel of a Greek island with all its white buildings and little winding streets. There are so many fab beach spots to choose from and the sea is super calm so I promise after a weekend (or longer) trip here you will leave feeling rejuvenated.

Where to Eat & Drink in Cadaqués :

Daytime Food :

After a relaxing morning at the beach a great lunch spot is Bar L’Estable. There are seats inside but it is a great place to make the most of the seaside views and enjoy a couple of plates of tapas outside overlooking the water.

Evening Food :

El Chiringuito de la Mei which is located on the seafront was SO good that we went there twice in the 48 hours I was in Cadaqués. The must orders for me are the black squid ink croquettes – I can literally still taste them in my mouth now – and the seafood tagliatelle (both pictured below). It is super picturesque in the evening as it is a prime destination to watch the sunset over the sea and the staff are fantastic. It does get busy though so make sure to head there early to avoid disappointment.

Evening Drinks :

Another great option for enjoying the sunset is Boia*Nit where while sitting on the beach front you can sip on one of the many sensational cocktails. I would recommend the cocktail Lulada which is made using Lulo fruit from South America.

Size of Location :

What I particularly loved about Cadaqués is the calm small town vibe as it really is a go to place to relax. You can easily get around the whole town on foot and keep the sea in sight the whole time.

What to Wear :

When in relaxed Cadaqués keep your style classy yet simplistic and don’t forget to pack a selection of bikinis and a floppy hat 😉

Below I’m pictured in a simple black maxi dress with thigh splits, flip flops and a floppy hat. This look is perfect to go from beach to bar.
