‘Cinque Terre‘ quite literally translates from Italian to English as ‘five lands/grounds’. They are in fact five coastal villages in the region of Liguria in Northern Italy and they are (from south to north): Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza and Monterosso. There are no hostels in the area except for one in Corniglia (Ostello Corniglia) but it is very easy to travel to them all by train from La Spezia which is less than an hour from Pisa and under 2 hours from Florence or Genoa (would make for a long day but hey it’s an option!) Another way of getting to them is by boat.
Riomaggiore – With a background of colourful houses this destination is an Insta-fanatics dream. After a walk around the village we went to the harbour (pictured below) and set up camp on the rocks. It is a great place for both day & night and just perfection at sunset. I recommend after having a dip in the water sitting with a pizza and some wine and waiting for the sun to set. Make sure that you scroll down to the video at the bottom to see the magical atmostphere of Riomaggiore at nighttime. Riomaggiore è molto bellissimo!

Size of Location :
Riomaggiore is small enough to walk around in a couple of hours but make sure you have another couple of hours to just sit by the harbour. As it is a prime tourist destination there are lots of little restaurants, cafes & bars to choose from.
What to Wear :
I chose a simple monochrome outfit with a straw hat & bag with flat sandals. Make sure that you are wearing a bikini underneath so that you can swim!
